I haven’t blogged in one million years and I’m bringing it back (today) with a magical 11/11 post full of the best northern lights Homer has ever seen.
Okay, fall… it was hard. Grayish, brownish, rainyish… and my mood felt the same way. Lots of sad music, lots of missing summer, and a general feeling of ungroundedness. But winter appeared recently with some colder temps and a little bit of snow, and I’m feeling really good. Blue skies and sunshine really do a lot for you, even/especially in winter.
AND ICE SKATING! I love ice skating. I’ve gone a few times this week and it makes me feel so free and a part of nature.

We planned on ice skating last night after the work day… sunsetty ish. And then Chris and I got notifications from our Aurora app of a very high KP index, which would make for som exceptional ice skating. I made soup in the slow cooker for our post ice skating dinner, and got all of our winter and ice skating gear together.
The boys and I hopped in Betty White (our expedition) and headed to pick up Holly, Eden, and Chris. Lampert Lake, here we come! The boys were excited to ice skate – their first time of the season. Eden wasn’t excited at all and was feeling grumpy or hangry, but her moods can change quickly.
Here’s this nice photo of trying to get all of us suited up in our winter gear and ice skates.

And then we spent the next long while just in awe looking at the sky. I’ve never seen red/pink northern lights like this before, especially in Homer. It was amazing. Right place right time right circumstances. So good.

And while ice skating… with my people… on 11/11… how special. The Youngs left their cozy warm home to come join us on the lake too. We did hear a huge crack on the lake next to us, but all was well. :)

I like this next picture because it looks a bit more realistic (though still brighter), like what we saw with our eyes. Northern lights pictures always capture way more light than we see, making it look a bit deceptive, and then can make the aurora seem a little disappointing in real life. Buuuut it’s amazing. And so calming and awesome to watch them.

We came home and ate our cozy soup with our cozy Christmas lights and some candles, and it was so lovely.

Once the kids were asleep, we hot tubbed with our neighbor under the stars and under the aurora, and it was just all really special. Filled my cup.
